Join us at He Waka Atawhai Tukua Wānanga Wednesday 29th November Mataatua Whare, In partnership with Ngāti Awa, we have a great Wānanga planned with guest speakers Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith and Te Kuru White. Our aim is to come together as a network to critically reflect on how family violence impacts health, hauora and wellbeing. We will look to share skillsets and information to support safe, relational responses to whānau and in our research understanding of complex systems, look to translate knowledge across diverse systems boundaries. In October 2023, along with two of the Atawhai research whānau GP’s, Dr Claire Gear presented Atawhai at the WONCA World Conference of General Practice in Sydney

Atawhai met with the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence, Marama Davidson on the 1st of August 2023 to provide an update on research findings and future directions. Minister Davidson provided Atawhai with a letter of support, acknowledging the strong alignment of our research with Te Aorerekura, the National Strategy to Eliminate Family Violence and Sexual Violence. This built upon previous meetings with Minister Davidson on the 6th of April online and her attendance at Atawhai Workshop Six on 16 June 2023.
In July 2023, the Atawhai rōpū attended the Conference for General Practice in Auckland. The team hosted a workshop that invited delegates in critical reflection of how system structures shape responsiveness to family violence and the challenges and strengths encountered in practice. Approximately 50 people attended the workshop and engaged with Atawhai resources and kōrero. Atawhai has now presented at three consecutive annual General Practice conferences, in Wellington (2021), Christchurch (2022) and Auckland (2023) and will present again at GP24.
